Szczesny: "It’s always better to win before the UCL"

Three more points, a clean sheet, and another important step towards the Scudetto – it was a positive test in light of the upcoming events, against Milan in the league (Saturday, 18:00 at Allianz Stadium) and with Ajax in the Champions League (Wednesday, at 21:00, at Amsterdam Arena). The result against Cagliari was a fundamental victory for Wojciech Szczesny, who took stock of the great challenges that await the Bianconeri.

THREE GOLDEN POINTS IN CAGLIARI

“With Cagliari,” ‘Tek’ tells Sky Sport. “It was an* important victory* to remain calm, also in view of Milan and the Champions League and because now there are only three games to go to win the Scudetto. It was not easy to win, but we did our job well and it seemed easy. Their strength came in from the crosses, but we won all the duels. It was a perfect match to prepare for the great matches that await us.”

JUVE-MILAN, ALWAYS A GREAT CHALLENGE

In the first leg, the Polish goalkeeper had armoured his own goal by parrying a Gonzalo Higuain penalty, an occasion in which he also received "advice" from Cristiano Ronaldo: "Cristiano had given me some advice on how to save Higuain's penalty, telling me to jump early because ‘Pipita’ does not look at the goalkeeper. And it's true, because I already knew Higuain well, but I was pleased by this attitude of Cristiano to come and talk to me. It's a good factor in order to confuse the opponent who is going to kick the penalty.”

"The first leg at San Siro was one of our best performances this year,” adds Tek. “And we must always be at our best to win against them. It's always Juventus - Milan. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ON THE HORIZON

A convincing performance with Milan, according to the Polish goalkeeper, will be invaluable in view of the Champions League, so as to be able to maintain the quality standards shown in the return against Atletico: “We must remain at the level that we showed when we played against Atletico in the return leg: without ever lowering the attention,” commented Szczesny. “It is always better to win the first leg and wrap it up in the return leg. We hope to maintain the same level for the next Champions League match until 1 June.”
