THE PATH

It’s the 45th minute between Torino and* Genoa: the Ligurians are in front by a goal. Incredibly, head into the break 2-1 down courtesy of goals from Ansaldi and Belotti. This would be the final verdict for Ivan Juric, who had previously replaced Davide Ballardini* after eight games. When Cesare Prandelli arrives, six games later, things are indeed complicated and the gap between Genoa and the drop zone is just four points. With the former Italian National Team coach, things have improved and they are now nine points clear from the final relegation spot.

If the peak of Juric's management is represented precisely by the draw won in the first leg at the Allianz Stadium, the most recent victory under the tutelage of Cesare Prandelli has thrilled the fans for the way it happened. At home to Lazio, Genoa closed the first half with a goal. In the last quarter of an hour the momentum of the hosts allowed them to win three really valuable points. The draw was signed by Sanabria, their new January signing who was brought in to replace Piatek. In the third minute of stoppage time, Captain Criscito set fire to Curva Nord with a diagonal from outside the area that kissed the inner post.

After the point snatched in Turin against Juventus, the subsequent away game of Genoa says that the Juric’s exploits in his debut match was an isolated episode. At San Siro against Inter, in fact, the Rossoblu collapsed under the weight of a 5-0 defeat; where two stoppage times goals by the Nerazzurri made the scoreline a complete drubbing. What makes the defeat in even worse, that the goals from Gagliardi and Politano, were to blame on defensive errors.

THE PROTAGONIST

Born in Bucharest, with 22 appearances to his name, Andrei Radu has established himself as Genoa’s goalkeeper during the season. At the beginning, it wasn’t so easy, with some errors taking place like in the home game against Parma. Later, however, the boy put on a series of very good performances, notably during the home appearances against Atalanta (with penalty saved against Ilicic) and Fiorentina (0-0 - the result of many of his decisive interventions). Recently some of his best games have been played when away: in Empoli, where he was decisive in the first half; in Bologna, where he saved the draw in three circumstances, he couldn’t prevent a goal coming from Destro after going the wrong way.

12 punti in 13 partite, questo lo score dell’allenatore Julio Velázquez, prima di essere esonerato dalla panchina dell’Udinese. Da metà novembre, prima della gara contro la Roma, Davide Nicola, ex allenatore del Crotone, ha preso le redini della squadra friulana. I risultati sono cambiati di poco: in 12 gare l'Udinese ha totalizzato 13 punti (l’Udinese deve recuperare una partita contro la Lazio).

Ma come è cambiata la squadra friulana? Se con l’allenatore spagnolo l’Udinese cercava di costruire gioco attraverso il palleggio, andando incontro spesso a situazioni pericolose perdendo palla sulla propria trequarti, il gioco di Nicola è decisamente più pragmatico. Dal 4 1 4 1 di Velázquez si è passati ad un* 3 5 2* (già utilizzato in un paio di occasioni anche dal tecnico spagnolo), in cui la copertura del campo sembra dare più garanzie alla difesa.

Nelle ultime 13 gare l’Udinese ha subito 14 reti contro le 18 nelle prime 12 partite, e soprattutto è riuscita a vincere alcune partite fondamentali che le hanno permesso di trovarsi ora n una zona classifica relativamente tranquilla. Proprio la partita contro il Bologna di domenica scorsa aveva in qualche modo il sapore di uno spareggio salvezza. I friulani hanno vinto pur concedendo più spazio e margine di manovra al Bologna.

Gli emiliani infatti hanno avuto un* maggior possesso palla con un baricentro più alto ed hanno concluso nello specchio della porta di più dei padroni di casa.* I due esterni di centrocampo friulani, molto vicini ai tre centrali, si sono occupati più della fase difensiva che di quella di possesso.

La soluzione offensiva spesso più adottata è la palla lunga per Okaka o Lasagna che cercano di giocare di sponda per il compagno di reparto, l’argentino Pussetto o dell’altro argentino, il centrocampista De Paul, bravo a inserirsi negli spazi.

Nella gara contro il Bologna Pussetto è stato il giocatore con il maggior numero di dribbling riusciti e falli subiti, a testimonianza della sua tecnica, mentre Okaka, leader nei palloni recuperati e falli fatti. È ben chiaro quindi cosa Nicola chiede ai due diversi attaccanti friulani.
