When a UCL first leg finishes 1-1

Going into Tuesday night's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Ajax with a 1-1 draw from the first game, it's a scenario that the Bianconeri have gone into seven times previously, qualifying on six occasions (including against Ajax in 1977/78)

Here are the details of these seven encounters:

1. vs Panathinaikos: 1961/62

In the Last 32 of the 1961/62 European Cup, the Bianconeri faced Panathinaikos, playing the first leg at the Leoforos Alexandras Stadium* *in Greece. Juve went ahead with a goal from midfielder, Bruno Mora on 45 minutes but were then pegged back by Andreas Papaemmanuil in the second half.

In Turin, Juventus took a first half advantage with goals six minutes apart through Bruno Nicolé and Giorgio Rossano, with Panathinaikos with Ioanis Kolevas reducing the deficit in the 62nd minute from the penalty spot.

2. vs Ajax: 1977/1978

The first Champions League knockout meeting against the Lancieri happened in the quarter-finals of the 1977/78 European Cup.

The first game in Amsterdam finished in a 1-1 draw with the goals coming very late in the game. Pim van Dord struck first in the 86th minute, only for the Bianconeri to hit back in the 89th through winger, Franco Causio.

In Turin, the two sides couldn't be separated once more with Marco Tardelli scoring in the first half and Tscheu La Ling in the 80th minute. The game then went to penalty kicks that would see Juve triumph 3-0 after Ajax missed all of their spotkicks, with Causio scoring the winner, following a miss from Claudio Gentile and conversions from Romeo Benetti and Antonio Cabrini.

3. vs Standard Liege: 1982/83

Tardelli in the sixth minute, Simon Tahamata from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. This is the story of the1982/83 European Cup first leg, Last 16 game between Standard Liege played in Belgium.

The return game held in Turin is a much more straight-forward affair for the Bianconeri who win 2-0 thanks to Paolo Rossi's first half double.

4. vs Rosenborg: 1996/1997

Once more in the quarter-finals, it's another opening 1-1, taking place in Trondheim, Norway against Rosenborg. All the action happens within two second half minutes, as the home side go in front thanks to Trond Soltvedt, before Christian Vieri draws Juve level after 53 minutes.

In Turin at the Delle Alpi, the Bianconeri triumph with goals from Zinedine Zidane in the 29th minute and then Nicola Amoruso with a penalty in the 89th.

In the semi-finals, the Bianconeri go on to meet none other than Ajax!

5. vs Dynamo Kiev: 1997/98

This time the 1-1 draw began at home, after Dynamo take the lead in Turin from Andriy Husin goal in the 56th minute, with Filippo Inzaghi getting the equaliser 14 minutes later to take the draw to Kiev.

In the second leg Inzaghi is at it again scoring a hat-trick with Serhiy Rebrov temporarily drawing the hosts level before SuperPippo's second two goals. Alessandro Del Piero capped the win with a goal in the 87th to seal a 4-1 comeback.

6. vs Manchester United: 1998/1999

The only match in the Champion League where a 1-1 first leg draw hasn't ended in progression for the Bianconeri.

The first leg semi-final against Manchester United United at Old Trafford almost saw Juve take a 1-0 lead back to Italy thanks to Antonio Conte's goal after 25 minutes, before Ryan Giggs scored a stoppage time equaliser.

In Turin the game begins well for Juventus, who go 2-0 up inside 15 minutes after Inzaghi's early double, however first half goals from Roy Keane and Dwight Yorke swing the tie back in United's favour. Andy Cole scored an 84th minute winner to send Man Utd through to the final, which would eventually see them go on to lift the cup.

7. vs Barcelona: 2002/2003

The last 1-1 first leg Champions League draw ended in an historical victory for Juventus. Their quarter-final against Barcelona finished 1-1 at the Stadio Delle Alpi after Paolo Montero had given Juve a 16 minute lead, before the Bianconeri were pegged back by Javier Saviola in the 78th.

In the Camp Nou, Pavel Nedved opened the scoring with a slaloming run in the second half, but then Xavi equalised soon after. Despite going down to 10 men with the dismissal of Edgar Davids, the Bianconeri dug deep and Marcelo Zalayeta popped up with a 114th minute goal in extra-time, getting on the end of Alessandro Birindelli's cross to send Juve through to the semi-finals!
